Menlo Park, California -- North America venture capital database
VentureDeal tracks venture capital financings of Advanced Materials companies.
The chart below shows year-to-date 2015 North America funding totals by state, including Canada.
A total of $160 million has been funded to Advanced Materials companies year to date in 2015.
California came in first place with slightly more than $50 million in funding amounts.
Perhaps surprisingly, the second through fifth place states were that of Washington, Utah, Pennsylvania and Arizona.
Notably, the typically technology-heavy states of Massachusetts and New York were not well represented in the data, accounting for only $7 million in $2.6 million in aggregate funding, respectively.
Only one company in Canada received Funding, in the amount of $2 million.
A total of 19 states were represented in the data. This is a reasonably wide distribution of funding, given the currently niche status of the Advanced Materials industry in the venture capital ecosystem.
Although not shown in the above chart, 2014 was significantly more active, with companies receiving $296 million in aggregate funding.
2015 is therefore on track to result in an estimated 40% drop in aggregate venture capital financing for the industry.
